Latest Covid Policy from the SDI

cheer Latest COVID POLICY Please read!! Things have once again changed! As many of you know, Washington has moved into Phase 3 and the Governor’s office has put out new documents in regards to the changes for Phase 3. You can find these documents at: Sporting Activities COVID-19 Requirements. With these new requirements in place, the WASRC has updated the Return to Play Protocols for Match Officials. You can find the document on the front page of the WASRC website or here: Return to Play – Match Officials (March 2021) There are two major changes to the protocols: •Masks are no longer required during the game. There may be exceptions to this and you are required to know. Some Counties, School Districts, and local Department of Health may not recognize the current Phase 3 Sporting Activities COVID-19 Requirements. It is your responsibility to check with the home team coach to see if masks are required to be worn during the match. If so, you will be required to wear a mask during the game. •We have removed the drop ball and penalty kick protocol. Normal drop ball and penalty kick procedures will return as outlined in the Laws of the Game. Yes, this means the referee will handle the soccer ball. Items that haven't changed: •Masks must be worn before, at half-time, and after the match. •Always maintain proper distancing before, during, and after the game. •You still have the option to wear a mask. •Avoid sharing gear unless absolutely necessary. •It is still advised to use an electronic whistle. •There still is no coin toss - home team picks side, away team gets kickoff. •If you still don't feel comfortable officiating at this time...don't! •The biggest reminder… if you don’t feel well, stay home! Have a great weekend! Regards, Leslie Poirier State Director of Instruction WA State Referee Committee
